GGR Autocross March 2026
PCA-GGR Autocross Enthusiasts,
Our Autocross #1 took place on Saturday, February 28th at Crows Landing NAS. The weather was outstanding and the surrounding hills were still green: Saturday brought clear skies with temps in the low 80s. Beautiful!
This was the maiden voyage for our new trailer! We had a short ribbon-cutting ceremony after the driver’s meeting. Porsche Redwood City was recognized for their continuing sponsorship and purchase funding for the trailer (2025) and new loaner helmets (2026). Dave Jeffords of Gorilla Tornado Photography was on hand for his great photos.
Initially we had 77 drivers register: after 4 cancellations and 1 break-down we ran with 72 drivers in 66 cars. We had what is likely a record percentage (~92%) of drivers in Zone 7 Classes including the new “N-01” Novice class, plus 6 drivers in Fun Class (all non-Porsches).
Ten ‘Student’ drivers, all of which were in N-01 Class and new to our events and driving Porsches requested and were provided instructors. This is exciting as it demonstrates we are attracting new blood in Porsches!!
In raw time Tara Shapowal-Lau (2010 Cayman “Stormy” in U-01 Class) took first place at 51.337s, Steve Lau (Stormy) took second at 51.536s and Peyton Chen (2022 718 Spyder in P-05 Class) took third place at 53.457s. In PAX, place winners and order was identical with Tara in first place at 51.337s, Steve in second at 51.536s and Peyton in third at 51.746s. Other notable top PAX placeholders were Drew Powers (2014 Cayman S, M-02 Class) in fourth at 52.411s, Ed Burghardt (2007 Cayman, P-03 Class) in fifth at 52.547s and RJ Harrison (2022 718 Spyder, P-05 Class) in sixth at 52.660s.
Our course was designed by Teddy Framhein and featured a 3-cloverleaf design familiar to those who run frequently at Crows Landing; it was easy for all drivers to read, and quite fun, fast and challenging to drive.
We had two farm dogs run on course on Saturday which necessitated stopping the event for a short time and coaxing them to move off the course with our lunch snacks. They ended up staying on site overnight hovering around two drivers camping on site and joined us for snacks and naps on both days (see photo).
Our second autocross is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, also at Crows Landing NAS and will be announced 3-4 weeks prior.
We are grateful to Porsche Redwood City for their 2026 season sponsorship and support!
Steve Forshay
