Burning the Midnight Oil

Well, as I sit here tonight (10pm) writing this blog, a construction crew is putting in some overtime as well at Laguna Seca, putting up the main passenger bridge. They have a live-steam posted in case you want to keep up with the “action”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzVMNwLjq38

In case you hadn’t heard, Laguna is set to be re-paved before the main event of Rennsport 7 in September, but the other big upgrade is the bridge replacement and electrical upgrade (which runs under the bridge). There have been weather delays but it looks like they are hard at work.

GGR has a track day planned for Sept 15-17 at Laguna so looking forward to the new surface! We have several track days at other venues before then so check those out on the track page.

Speaking of re-construction projects, the GGR website crashed just recently and we’ve been hard at work bringing all the pages back. In some respects, this was a good thing as the site was overdue for a refresh, but bear with us as this work continues.

Last weekend, we held our annual autocross school with 41 students and 63 instructors. Thanks everyone for coming out and supporting the event. Students for their enthusiasm and Instructors for their dedication to showing new autocrossers the ropes.

On the following day we held a “Test and Tune” event at the same venue (Salinas Municipal Airport) which was also well attended. This was our 1st time at the Salinas Airport BTW, and it looks like this will be a great site for us going forward.

Next autocross is coming up soon at Crows Landing. The course looks great! You can sign up here: msreg.com/2023ggrax3

On the PCA National front, Phase 2 Registration is now open for Porsche Parade in Palm Springs. I’m looking forward to that, the last Parade I attended was back in 2017. Yikes, that seems like a lifetime ago!

PCA is also looking for some volunteers to help out with the PorschePlatz parking and hospitality area at the IMSA Race at Laguna Seca Saturday May 13 and Sunday May 14.

Both hospitality and corral workers needed. There will be T shirts for the volunteers and some very limited availability of general admission tickets (these do not include corral parking)

Please send your Zone 7 Rep, Brian Adkins an email at brianpadkins@gmail.com include your name, PCA Region, day(s) available, preferred shift(s) and t-shirt size. The goal is to have 3 shifts per day: Morning / Midday / Afternoon (Any preference of work assignment or limitations you may need to be taken into consideration). Free tickets will be a first come and priority for those who work both days and or multiple shifts.

In Porsche AG news, I heard the marketing theme for the first half of 2023 will be Porsche’s 75th Anniversary. Colors are back in style, it would seem.

For the 2nd half of the year the theme will be the 911’s 60th Anniversary

In other news, Luftgekuhlt is coming to town, previous events have all been held down in LA, but this the 9th iteration will be held at Mare Island (somewhat near Oakland) the last weekend of April. Day 1 will be the traditional aircooled only show, but Sunday will include the water pumpers. I’m looking forward to it.

Well, gotta go. My alarm is set for 7 hours from now to wake up for an autocross at Crows tomorrow. See you out there!
