A Porsche September

Someone’s car just came in (not mine BTW)

Only one car comes from the factory with that high a rear wing!

As of the writing of this blog, both are at Porsche Redwood City.

Car week in Monterey was a blast as usual. I kicked off the week going to track to watch the historic cars run. The famous “Corkscrew” (Turn 8) is pictured below:

Here’s a fun old picture of Laguna Seca from the 80’s before they changed the layout. Note the current turns 2-5 are not there as they are today (too many high speed crashes in Can-Am as I understand it). You can use the 2 bridges to help you find your bearings.

Plenty of car shows and meetups every day, everywhere. Here’s a row of GT cars across from a wine bar.

Need more Porsches? Werks Reunion had over 750 Porsches on display (including corrals).

Back to GGR events. For the GGR August autocross at the Salinas airport, the autocross team was able to create an expanded course design that utilized additional previously untapped spaces. As a result, an additional 20 seconds of course space was found leading to our longest course yet at this site (over 60 seconds). For reference a good lap at Laguna Seca is about 1:43 or so. Great fun! Our next autocross is at Sonoma Raceway on 9/30 and registration is OPEN.

For track, we held a DE and Club Race at Sonoma

More GGR events are coming up soon, including Autocross at Sonoma on 9/30 and Track day (DE and Race) at Laguna 9/15-17. Social events and monthly cars and coffee every month as well. Also, don’t forget about Rennsport (once every 4 years) coming up at the newly paved Laguna Seca 9/28-10/1: https://www.porscherennsportreunion.com/ We’re very lucky to have this international level event in our backyard!

One last item. GGR Elections are right around the corner, so if you’d like to help out the club to produce quality events, several positions are open for nominations/self-nominations for the 2024-2025 term:

  • President
  • Secretary
  • Track Director
  • Autocross Director
  • Motoring Director
  • Webmaster

Please contact me or another member of the nominating committee to put your name forward to join the GGR Board! GGR is a volunteer run organization and we need your help to ensure events get planned and executed.

Positions that will be continuing are Vice-President, Treasurer, Membership Director, Social Director and Nugget Editor.

See you at an event soon!
