Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Call to Order 6:12pm

President:

  • Larry Castro got a 2nd place grand prize in the PCA Raffle! Howard called him on January 31 to inform and congratulate him
  • Next Zone 7 Presidents Meeting & Awards Dinner is March 2, 2024 in Walnut Creek – Howard will attend and Jim McClelland will fill in for Brad
  • Nominations taken for some 2023 Club Awards

Vice President:

  • (update provided via email) PCA National insurance policy is now in place, so requests can be made for any event-specific policies needed

Secretary:

  • Vote to approve January 10, 2024 minutes: APPROVED
  • Will keep track of Club Awards recipients and attempt to backfill the website (which has data only through 2017) with more recent winners

Treasurer:

  • Jan 2024 financials discussion, vote to accept: APPROVED
  • Current bank balance: ~$300k
  • President & Treasurer will hold debit cards, Treasurer can issue checks to prepay larger expenses

Track Directors:

  • Did not get a Laguna date this year, but will work to build relationship with new rental staff so things are hopefully better in 2025
  • Considered Thunderhill date in August, but Buttonwillow date in November anticipated to be more popular (Central Coast Region hosting Friday)
  • Presented modified budget with Laguna replaced with a second Buttonwillow event in November (which could potentially be on the new track if it is finished) and additional cost for new radios – vote was deferred
  • The Tech Talk Series at BR Racing has been revived!
    • First event on January 20 had over 70 people
    • Second event is February 10, 2024 covering Tires, Data Acquisition, and Boxster/Cayman vehicles
  • Next track event: Instructor Training February 17-18, 2024
  • Every member of the board invited to come out for a DE weekend to understand how they run

Membership Director:

  • February 2024 member counts
    • PCA GGR
      • 3,830 total (2,651 primary members, 1,176 co-members, 3 honorary)
      • 136 PCA Juniors, 103 renewals, 65 dropped, 36 new members
    • PCA National: 160,878 active members (105,610 primary & 55,268 co-members)
  • Planning next membership event (Lunch at Autovino with a guest speaker) on March 23, 2024
  • Vote to accept new members: APPROVED

Social Director:

  • January Cars & Coffee was very popular and location (Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto) was noted as central for many people, ​​Breitling Boutique has offered to do another event later in the year or in 2025
  • Next Cars & Coffee: February 25 at Caffe Mezza Luna in Half Moon Bay

Motoring Director:

  • First event (February) recently opened and quickly filling up
  • Discussed plan for rest of year including a few overnight events
  • Presented interim budget of $1000 to start the year, vote to accept: APPROVE

Autocross Director:

  • Presented updated budget including Test & Tune event on April 21 at Alameda, vote to accept: APPROVED
  • Autocross Instructor Training School provided by Zone 7 was held February 3: 17 current & new GGR instructors received three-hours of classroom instruction
  • Autocross Steering Committee has decided adopt the Zone 7 car classification system
  • Additional calendar updates
    • April 21 Test & Tune at Alameda
    • August event will now be August 11 at Crows Landing
  • Next event: March 9 at Crows Landing

Nugget Editor:

  • Submission deadline for this month’s newsletter is February 11
  • Discussion on potential of additional per-newsletter ad slots

Webmaster:

  • No update (not present)
