President’s Message: Zone 7 Concours

Dear GGR Members,

Another eventful month, on August 3rd, GGR hosted the Zone 7 Concours at Porsche Redwood City. This has been an annual event for decades and the event seems to get larger and better every year. After attending the wonderful event, it inspired me to dig up some older photos. Pretty cool that one photo was from 2025 and one was from 2004, 21 years apart, but taken at the same place and Charlie still looks the same!

I also wanted to highlight the fact that back in the day, when we had a Concours, we also allocated a portion of the parking lot for a Swap Meet. There are two photos below that show you what it was like. By the way, if you look at those brake rotors, it's written in black marker the numbers “917”. Really? Back in 2004 you could buy Porsche 917 brake rotors at a GGR swap meet?

Finally, I just wanted to share a few pictures from the GGR 65th Anniversary Party at Hiller Aviation Museum. Brian Atkins, our Zone 7 Representative, hands me a certificate from PCA National, recognizing our region’s 65th year. Ralf Dossmann, our Club Historian, served as moderator. Our panelists consisted of:

  • George Neidel - joined 1963 and 27th longest serving member in all of PCA.

  • Tara Shapowal - autocrosser extraordinaire just back from Parade after another dominating performance.

  • Larry Sharp - past GGR President, Track Chair, Autocross Chair, Zone 7 Representative, and countless other leadership positions.

  • Ron Burton - CFO of Porsche Redwood City, growing up in the business and racing.

  • Howard Yao - GGR President, past Track Director, Secretary, Social, Nugget Editor.

It was a fantastic sold-out event, celebrating our club's past and planning an even better future. Thank you all for being a part of this beloved club and especially to all the volunteers that have been so generous with their time to shape the club we are today.

Sincerely,

Howard Yao
