China

October was a relatively quiet month for Social, but a busy month for me as I spent a few weeks in China for a large family reunion (with a side of Porsche exploration of course).

In Shanghai we visited the Porsche Pop-up experience. It is a joint project between Porsche and the city of Shanghai, retrofitting unused commercial/industrial space for an immersive exhibit.

Inside we found several race and street cars, and exhibits on the Porsche design process, PTS colors, interior materials. We also enjoyed a small section on Porsche clubs around the world, with PCA prominently featured. Fun fact - Porsche Club China was founded in 2017, and since then has gone on to complete exciting adventures like conquering the whole highway 318, the longest China National Highway running from Shanghai to Tibet (3,403 miles!).

We also were lucky to spot a few Porsches in the wild, including this stunning GT3 on a night cruise. The Porsche model selection in Mainland China is quite different due to import restrictions and strict emission standards. The GT cars are quite rare and some of the modern GT cars, like the 992 GT3 RS, are available as track-only.

Ample legroom and sufficient car size are highly prized in the Chinese market. Several European manufacturers, like Audi, even offer L (long) versions of their sedans to enhance rear seat comfort. Our hotel in Shanghai was right next to a Porsche dealership: front and center were the executive sedans and SUVs, with a Nordic Gold Panamera in the featured spot, and sports cars taking the back row.

It was a fun trip and still so much to explore - looking forward to coming back next year.

Back home, we hosted a Cars and Coffee with SF Sports Cars - it was a well-attended event despite the rain, and the donuts and coffee went by quickly! Thank you all for keeping the community spirit despite inclement weather. They don’t melt in the rain! Thank you for SF Sports Cars for the warm welcome and generous hosting.

Pink Pig

I spy… A PCA sticker! (this car is on loan from the Porsche Museum in Germany, but looks like it spent part of its exciting life in the USA).

All the key colors…

Move over Porsche hookah… There’s a new must-have lifestyle accessory in town! Yes, the official Porsche Mahjong set.
