Speed, Risk, Financial Ruin and… Joy!

Dear GGR Members,

A few weeks ago, we had our annual Novice Car Control Clinic at Alameda. Student enrollment was super high and we were in need of instructors, so instead of going to Thunderhill for DE#2, I decided to instruct at the CCC. I had autocrossed for about 20 years, but since I got the track bug, I had not really done much autocross. Before the event, it felt strange for me, something so intimately familiar, yet strangely foreign. But once the event started, all this accumulated knowledge started flooding back into my brain. I ended up having two great students and the day was filled with fast driving, a lot of cheers, and big smiles. It just reminded me what a joy it can be to instruct new drivers at autocross. Special thanks to our Autocross Director, Steve Forshay, for putting in all the effort to run this super successful event.

At the end of this month, I’m really looking forward to experiencing the new Circuit track at Buttonwillow. The original track, built in 1995 is a really fun track to drive, however we don’t usually get to experience a brand new track! The Circuit is 2.5 miles and from what I’m told, offers some banked turns and some very fast straightaways to gain some serious velocity. All of the people that have driven it have given me positive feedback. So May 30th the California Central Coast Region will be hosting at “The Circuit”, then the weekend GGR is hosting “The Classic” track for HPDE, Time Trial, and Club Racing. I’ll be there camping in my rooftop tent, come join us in the desert!

As a car club, we really try to put on a diverse range of events, so whatever your tolerance is for speed, risk, and financial ruin, you will find friendly people that will help you get involved in the Club and get the most out of your Porsche.

Sincerely,

Howard Yao
