St. Paddy’s Day Run Through The Green Forest
On March 15th we celebrated St. Paddy’s Day with a drive from San Mateo to Santa Cruz via Alice’s, Pescadero and the Empire Grade Road. We had a larger group than normal for us. This present all kinds of challenges from enough Leads-Sweeps, meeting area size, location and keeping all on time. With 53 cars and 10 passengers it went very smoothly! With a couple of minor exceptions ~ One driver lost a crown and had to turn back to see his dentist. Another driver got lost, which is pretty hard to do on one of our runs, and a beautiful Adventurine Green Turbo S had to pull over due to a very concerning noise in the left rear wheel area. When the car was finally on the flatbed tow truck, it was discovered they had run over a windshield wiper blade assembly. They pulled it out, took the car off the truck and drove home. As you may imagine, with 53 cars, we had a pretty eclectic group. With our capable Group 5 lead Subby Gnosh air-cooled leading this group which included a very well done Olive Green IROC tribute outlaw followed by the very capable 1976 912 ( all 90 HP of it ). The 912 was in capable hands and balanced perfect for this day’s routing. We ended with a fun lunch and social time at the Palomar Restaurant in Santa Cruz. They did a terrific job accommodating our group size and various arrival times. With 5 groups I was expecting some challenges, yet due to the cooperation of the attendees, the competent Lead-Sweep Teams and some good pre-planning we pulled it off! And our Safety Car went unused again. Thanks again to the adept and experienced volunteer team who made this all possible.
