Call for New Autocross Director for 2027-‘28 Seasons

• A new PCA-GGR Autocross Director is needed to drive the club’s exciting and well attended autocross events into the 2027 – 2028 seasons.  PCA-GGR has run autocross events since the 1960s and those traditions must continue under new leadership!  Contact Howard Yao at President@pca-ggr.org asap to express your interest!    
  

Autocross #6 on Sunday, August 23rd, Our Last Event at Salinas Municipal Airport for 2026

• Registration opened on August 3rd and we hosted 56 drivers including 10 student drivers for which we provided instructors.  We missed a few regulars due to vacation travel and a conflict with an SCCA event at Crows Landing in prep for SCCA Nationals.  We reused a course that made great use of the available asphalt designed by Teddy Framhein and first run in summer 2025. 
  

• In Raw time, RJ Harrison (P-05) took TToD at 35.368s in his 2022 718 Spyder, Drew Powers (M-02) was 2nd at 35.788s in his 2014 Cayman S, Peyton Chen (P-05) was 3rd at 35.812s in his 2022 718 Spyder, Doug Brekke (O-05) took 4th at 36.456s in his 2013 Carrera S, Dylan Huey (P-05) took 5th at 36.688s in his 2022 Cayman GT4, and Paul Smith (P-05) took 6th at 36.941s in his 2022 Cayman GT4.

• In PAX time, RJ Harrison took 1st at 34.236s, Drew Powers was 2nd at 34.464s, Peton Chen was 3rd at 34.666s, Grady Carter (P-03) was 4th in his 2016 Cayman at 34.790s, Ryan Yee (P-03) was 5th in his 2025 Taycan 4S at 34.842s and Ed Burghardt (P-03) was 6th in his 2007 Cayman at 34.867s.  There is some great competition in P-05 and P-03 Classes.  Congrats to all!

Autocross #7, an Epic Zone 7 Event on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Crows Landing NAS

• Registrations were strong with 83 drivers running in 79 cars.  As this was advertised primarily as a competition event.  We did not offer assigned instructors; rather, we encouraged newer drivers with less than 2 events experience to register for a later event.  
  

• Drew Powers designed an exceptional ~1.7-mile course that made great use of the available surface, flowed well, included many challenging inter-connected technical elements, and was open enough to be read by experienced drivers.  As this was a Zone 7 event, a driver’s best morning time was added to that driver’s best afternoon time (from 3 total runs in each of the AM and PM sessions) to get a single overall time.  The course demanded exceptional driver concentration for ~110+ seconds to navigate and needed 8 workstations, the furthest of which required station workers to drive there and safely park nearby! 
  

• In Raw time, Steve Lau (M-03) took TToD at 210.863s in his and Tara Shapowal-Lau’s 2010 Cayman race car (“Stormy”), Teddy Framhein (Fun) was 2nd in his 2025 GT4 RS at 211.062s, Tara Shapowal-Lau (M-03) was 3rd in “Stormy” at 211.221s, Drew Powers (M-02) was 4th in his 2014 Cayman S at 213.434s, Peyton Chen (P-05) was 5th in his 2022 718 Spyder at 215.194s and Issac Acks (Fun) was 6th in his 2006 Lancer EVO at 216.071s.  Amazing, especially considering that Steve and Tara drove 1,200 miles back from SCCA Nationals getting to Patterson at 1:00 am on the morning of the event! 
  

• In PAX time, Drew Powers took TToD with an incredible time of 205.537s (he was totally on it!), Brant Ballantyne (O-04), who was also on it, was 2nd at 206.912s in his 2012 Cayman R, Steve Lau was 3rd at 207.067s, Tara Shapowal-Lau was 4th at 207.419s, Peyton Chen was 5th at 208.308s, Eric Acks (O-05) was 6th in his 2018 Cayman GTS at 209.226s, and quite notably, Bryson Chen (O-04) in his 2015 Boxster S was 7th at 211.117s. Congratulations to all for those very competitive results!    
  

• On Saturday evening, PCA-GGR hosted ~40 people at a Zone 7 dinner at Javi’s Mexican Restaurant in Patterson, CA.  Drew Powers and Brant Ballantyne led a quiz on guesstimates of prices on recent sales of Porsche cars which was good fun.  Special thanks to Brian Adkins, our Zone 7 Rep to Porsche National, for his tremendous support for the club.  It was a great time socializing for all.
